Contest: Name Va. rest stops

A rest Stop just north of Richmond. (Andrea Bruce - THE WASHINGTON POST)
Naming rights are being sold for seemingly everything these days from stadiums to monkeys, but the state of Virginia has broken new ground by concocting a plan to auction off the naming rights for its 42 rest stops.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says the move will help defray the annual $20 million cost of keeping the pit stops open in lean budget times, but its an open question whether corporations will want to afix their name to a place associated with potty breaks. Imagine: The Dale City rest stop brought to you by Stop-N-Go.

“We would certainly welcome and encourage anyone to submit a proposal,” a Virginia transportation official said last week. We’re taking Joe Vagi at his word.

The Buzz is launching a contest to come up with the best names for Virginia rest stops. They can be silly or serious, but hopefully they should say Virginia. Leave your idea in the comments below. When we have some good ones we’ll open a poll, so readers can vote on the best ones. Get naming!
