D.C. has tiny homes, NYC has origami apartments

(Chip Somodevilla - Getty Images)
I just wrote about D.C.’s tiny, expensive homes, and now Refinery 29 has posted a video of Eric Schneider’s 450-square-foot New York City apartment with a cabinet that does everything from storing his kitchen spices to housing his Murphy bed.

Those crazy New Yorkers. They’re always stealing our thunder when it comes to uncomfortable housing one-upmanship.

This video is nine minutes and is completely mesmerizing:

The moral of the story is this: Just when you feel bad for how much you pay in rent to live in a townhouse with three strangers, some Manhattanite with a 78-square-foot apartment starts making ramen noodles in the communal bathroom and shows us how it’s really done.
