D.C. rated nation’s happiest city: Do you agree?

You can’t see their faces, but these Washingtonians are probably smiling, according to a new poll. (Kevin LaMarque - Reuters)
We’re romantic, rich and really fit — it’s no wonder we’re so happy!

The latest Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index finds that D.C. area residents are the happiest of the nation’s 52 largest cities, WTOP reports.

The Washington metro area was the only East Coast city that made it in the top five list, and beat out Austin, Tex.; San Jose, Calif.; Seattle; and San Francisco to claim the top spot.

Even though we’ve been derided as rude, ugly and terrible drivers, D.C. area residents apparently have plenty of other qualities working in our favor, such as healthy lifestyles: The poll showed that 85 percent of us don’t smoke and 72 percent visit the dentist once a year, giving us all the more reason to smile.

Tell us: Do you agree with the survey results? If so, why do you love living in the D.C. area? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
