D.C. State Fair scheduled for September (#DMVReads)

While the quest for D.C. statehood continues, the District is no longer to be without one specific perk of the designation: a state fair. Started in 2010 by a group of local bloggers, the D.C. State Fair activities include, among other things, local bakers, brewers and craft makers competing for the title of city’s best. According to The Hill is Home , the 2012 D.C. State Fair has been officially scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, as part of the Barracks Row Festival.

“‘ We are going for a culturally analogous concept to the state fairs that take place in Maryland and Virginia, and that transplanted residents might have grown up with in other regions,” said fair organizer, Rhea Kennedy. “‘Instead of encompassing counties, we bring together the eight wards of the District.’”
