Dupont High Heel Race: What you need to know

(Washington Blade)
I take comfort in knowing I was just learning to walk when a crew of men in drag tore down 17th Street NW for the first-ever Dupont High Heel Race. The 25th annual event is on tonight, which means thousands of residents will be flooding the streets as early as 6 p.m. for the race beginning at 9 p.m.

If you’re racing, know the basics: Sign up at Cobalt and be sure your pumps are at least two inches high. For the rest of you, here’s what you need to know:

Silver anniversary means silver hair. It’s longtime event organizer David Perruzza’s last year. “I get a little more gray hair and break out in acne every year from the stress,” he told Metro Weekly. “Actually, I joke and I kid. It is a fun event — it’s just too big for one person to handle.”

(Kevin Clark)
Men in heels, grub on wheels. The Washington Blade is organizing a food truck rally because the streets will probably be way too packed for you to score grub at any of the restaurants lining 17th Street. Eight food trucks have confirmed including D.C. Slices, Stix, Dangerously Delicious Pies, Porc, Sinplicity, Rolling Ficelle and Mojo Truck. Look for the crowd at 17th and O streets.

Go to the front of the [bar] line. Organizers are selling VIP tickets for $40 here.
