Kameny died on National Coming Out Day, a movement started by the Human Rights Campaign. Supporters are taking to Twitter to remember him:
@dcist_martin I started going to GLAA meetings in 1992 because I found out Frank Kameny would be there. I met him in 1988 or so.
I could sit here quoting GLBT history texts on Kameny all night. Not sure anyone in homophile movement changed America more. A total giant.
Wow. LGBT rights pioneer Frank Kameny has passed. And on national coming out day. Sad and poignant.
One of my heroes. MT @WashingtonBlade Friends of Frank Kameny have confirmed to Blade that the founder of our movement passed away today.
