Free doughnuts for National Doughnut Day

Greg Dohler/The Gazette
Free doughnuts. You don’t have to say much more to get The Buzz hyped up.

Today is, yes, National Doughnut Day and both Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts are getting in on the action. Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut to anyone who stops by a store. Dunkin’ Donuts is giving one away to any customer who buys a drink.

Didn’t know there was a National Doughnut Day? We didn’t either.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the holiday was started by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the sugary confection.
