VEEP, a new HBO series starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is starting production in Maryland this week, according to the governor’s office.
Local production of the show — a political satire about a fictional former senator, played by Louis-Dreyfus, who becomes vice president — began Monday in the Baltimore area, Gov. Martin O’Malley said in a statement.
The show’s pilot was shot in Maryland in February, and parts of the series have been shot in California.
HBO also shot the film “Game Change,” based on a book about the 2008 presidential campaign in Maryland. And it used Baltimore as the setting for the legendary series “The Wire.”
O’Malley (D) said Maryland and HBO have had “a long, successful partnership, and we look forward to having another of their quality productions in our state.”
