On Sunday evening, thunderstorms blew up over the region as a warm front lifted northward (setting the stage for Monday’s record heat). While nowhere near as intense as the storms that came through this morning, Sunday’s storms were full of electricity. Photographer Maxwell Kruger took full advantage of the light show, as described on his blog:
I was sitting at my desk last night doing some work when I was interrupted by a few repeated flashes of light. I looked out my window and there was quite an electrical storm happening in the distance. I decided to point a camera out the window to see what I would get. After about an hour of photography, this crazy photo [above] showed up on the back of my camera.
See Kruger’s full blog post for other spectacular lightning images from Sunday night. His images were also submitted to and posted over at TBD.com. Also, if you enjoy D.C. lightning photography, you should view some of CWG photographer Kevin Ambrose’s work .
