Investigation of Mayor Gray’s campaign needs its own flow chart

( By Nikita Stewart and Cristina Rivero/The Washington Post. | View the full-size chart )
It’s difficult to keep track of the many moving parts in D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s mayoral campaign finances and hiring practices investigation — the people, the allegations, the intricacies of campaign finance regulations ... the head spins.

There’s Sulaimon Brown, the onetime mayoral candidate who says he was promised a job by Gray’s campaign if Brown helped publicly smear former mayor Adrian Fenty. There’s Howard L. Brooks, the campaign consultant who allegedly mishandled donations and has ties to District lottery disputes. And there’s Lorraine A. Green, Gray’s campaign chairwoman who allegedly promised Brown a job.

Then there are the people listed as money-order donors who say they knew nothing about said donations to Gray’s campaign, not to mention the mayor himself.

Naturally, it was time for a flow order to help D.C. residents learn about the cast of characters. Here’s the full story from the Post’s Nikita Stewart, who has been reporting on the investigation since early this year.
