The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk kicked off Friday morning in Southeast Washington.

Under still-dark skies, hundreds of pink-clad women, men and children gathered at the D.C. Armory, where the annual breast cancer awareness event began.

Participants, including many breast cancer survivors, will walk 60 miles over the next three days to spread awareness and raise funds for a cure.

The event is one of dozens of Komen walks going on worldwide.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
