No charge for D.C. parking meters on Veterans Day

(Akeya Dickson/The Washington Post)
This morning I was walking into work on abnormally quiet streets when a woman wandered up and started asking anyone she could find about Veterans Day parking meter regulations.

Not one of us knew, so this one’s for her and everyone else afraid to park freely in D.C. today: Parking meters are not in operation and motorists should expect a holiday traffic pattern this afternoon, according to the District Department of Transportation.

For the six of us still at work, this means there will also be no rush-hour restrictions or reversible lane changes. However, some things never change regardless of the holiday — expect major Metro work all weekend.
