Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, starts Wednesday at sundown. An ancient holiday observed on the first two days of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, Rosh Hashanah is described by writer Yonah Bookstein as “the anniversary of humanity experiencing the world.”
