Route 29 Batman talks new car, ‘Dark Knight Rises’ (#DMVReads)

Leonard Robinson, shown in March, is known as Batman to children in area hospitals whom he visits, handing out Batman hats, shirts, backpacks and other things to brighten their days. (Jonathan Newton - The Washington Post)
Earlier this year, footage of police in Silver Spring pulling over a man dressed like Batman and driving a Bruce Wayne-esque Lamborghini caused a stir. The story grew more interesting when the driver was revealed to be Baltimore County businessman Lenny B. Robinson, who dresses like the caped crusader to entertain sick children at regional hospitals. With this week’s release of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the final chapter in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, DCist caught up with Robinson. The local Batman discussed his excitement for the film and a recent upgrade to his ride.

Now I have a real Batmobile. ... Instead of fitting some shell over a 30- or 40-year-old frame, I built everything from the ground up. New Ford racing motor. Everything from scratch. It's just the best of the best.”
