AAA says more people plan to travel from the Washington area this weekend than at any time since 2006. Dr. Gridlock’s alternate routes to popular destinations can help you escape the congestion.

Last-minute planners looking for a vacation close to home can consult our summer getaway guide. Read about local parks, pools, museums and more in the D.C. area. For local events this weekend, browse the calendar in the Going Out Guide.

If you’re firing up the grill, browse our Memorial Day recipes for dishes like spiced lamb burgers or dry-rubbed maple-glazed salmon.
