Warren Brown shutters Love Cafe

(James M. Thresher - FOR THE WASHINGTON POST)
Warren Brown, the Cupid whose CakeLove kickstarted the District’s well-documented romance with designer cupcakes, has decided to close the sit-down Love Cafe on U St. NW.

Brown announced the news of the eatery’s shuttering in a Friday tweet, and more news soon appeared on Love Cafe’s Web site:

Love Cafe, a 50-seat eatery Warren established with the aim of complementing his CakeLove locations with a larger menu of salads and brunch items — read: Wifi — will close Jan 29.

Brown’s cupcakeries continue to operate amid stiff competition. In the years since the first CakeLove was established in 2002, several other bakeries have cropped up all over the District area, from TLC darlings DC Cupcakes to newly-opened establishments, like Olivia’s Cupcakes in Anacostia and the mobile operation CrunkCakes.
