(COURTESY OF DIVERSE MARKETS MANAGEMENT)
As soon as the sun set on Thanksgiving, I noticed a sizeable crop of holiday gift guides pop up online. But they were geared more toward people searching for $500 gadgets or furry little Elmos.
And there wasn’t much out there in the manner of gifts available from local businesses. (On that note, kudos to TBD for this gallery of unique U Street finds.)
I’m hoping this annual D.C. shopping spree helps give local shoppers some direction: The four-week-long Downtown Holiday Market returned to Washington Friday.
Confession: I’m heading into my second holiday season as a Displaced Midwesterner in Washington, and I’ve never been to the Downtown Holiday Market. GOG bills it as a “favorite stop for those in search of a personal gift,” so I’m going to use this weekend to start doing my research.
Share your gifting ideas. I’ll be at the market around 1 p.m. Saturday snapping photos — check out my Instagram feed — and getting ideas from other shoppers. Find me on Twitter @KatieRogers if you want to send along tips, pictures and related chatter. Or you could stop by and say hello in person. I’ll then plug the best suggestions into a master list to help out fellow local shoppers. (Bonus points if your gifts ideas are original and economical.)
