Donna Brazile to serve as interim DNC Chair
By Chris Cillizza,
Longtime operative Donna Brazile will serve as the interim chair of the Democratic National Committee, according to a senior Democrat with knowledge of the move, helping to bridge the gap between Tim Kaine, who resigned the post on Tuesday to pursue a Virginia Senate bid in 2012, and new chair and Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Under DNC laws, Wasserman Schultz can’t formally ascend to the chair role until at least 15 days after she is put forward for the post — meaning that she can’t actually be elected DNC chair by the committee members until April 20th at the earliest.
Brazile, a DNC member and campaign manager for Al Gore’s 2000 presidential bid, will fill that gap.
