Rick Santorum allies make major Michigan ad buy

The Red White and Blue Fund, a super PAC supporting former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, is making a $700,000 ad buy in Michigan ahead of the Feb. 28 primary.

As of Wednesday, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and his super PAC supporters were outspending Santorum and his allies 29-to-1 in Michigan this week. This buy will correct some of that imbalance.

“As we’ve seen throughout this election cycle, the Romney campaign is good at two things: spending tons of cash and tearing others down. It won’t work here,” said Stuart Roy, an adviser to the group, in a statement.

Right now Santorum leads in Michigan polling.

The ads start airing Thursday; the super PAC did not provide details on whether they would be positive or negative. A recent Santorum ad featured a Romney impersonator spraying mud at his rival.
