Sheldon Adelson reportedly betting $10 million more on Newt Gingrich

Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson is planning to give another $10 million to a super PAC supporting former House speaker Newt Gingrich , according to reports from CNN and CBS News.

The two networks reported that the donation will come before the end of the month, a boost for the struggling candidate going into the March 6th Super Tuesday contests.

A spokesman for Adelson would not confirm the reports. “There has been wild rumor and speculation about what Mr. Adelson might or might not do, and I’m not going to contribute to that speculation,” said Ron Reese, spokesman for Adelson and Las Vegas Sands, Adelson’s resort and casino behometh.

However, the Las Vegas Sun’s Jon Ralston reports that the decision is not final.

“Adelson, who is in Israel, has not decided yet to cough up the $10 million. He may, but he's debating it,” Ralston wrote on Twitter, adding that a source told him Adelson was concerned about doing more damage to former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

This donation would not have to be filed with the Federal Election Commission for about a month, so there is some skepticism in the donor world as to whether Adelson will follow through on his promises.

While Romney and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum are duking it out on television, Gingrich’s allies have been releasing radio ads — a sign of limited funds.

Adelson and his family have already donated $11 million to Winning Our Future, the pro-Gingrich outside group.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that Adelson was hoping to push Santorum out of the lead so that either Gingrich or Romney, both of whom he considers more electable, can win the nomination.
