Tennessee primary: Mitt Romney could upset Rick Santorum

Today we’re running through the final polls in the most important Super Tuesday states — Ohio, Oklahoma, Georgia and Tennessee.

Tennessee could be the sleeper race of Super Tuesday.

Polls show former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum in the lead, but a Post-approved survey hasn’t been taken since mid-February.

Since then, a super PAC supporting former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has poured over a million dollars into the state. The state has a tradition of electing relatively moderate Republicans. Many state leaders are backing Romney.

Still, evangelical voters made up two-thirds of the GOP primary electorate here in 2008, and Romney has always struggled with that group. A win here — or even a close second-place finish — would be a serious coup for his campaign.
