‘Whoops’: New pro-Romney ad targets Gingrich ‘mistakes’
By Rachel Weiner,
Restore Our Future, a super PAC supporting former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, continues to hammer away at former Newt Gingrich in Iowa with a vicious new ad that cleverly turns the former House Speaker’s tendency towards freewheeling speech against him.
“Ever notice how some people make a lot of mistakes?” the narrator asks. What follows is the former House speaker admitting past errors combined with a now-familiar litany of Gingrich policy shifts.<iframe style=”” frameborder=”0” width=”454” height=”255”marginwidth=”0” marginheight=”0”src=”http://specials.washingtonpost.com/mv/embed/?title= Attack%20ad%3A%20Haven%27t%20we%20had%20enough%20mistakes&stillURL=http% 3A//media.washingtonpost.com/media/images/2011/12/29/12292011-22v_480x27 0.jpg&flvURL=/media/2011/12/29/12292011-22v.m4v&width=454&height=255&aut oStart=false&clickThru=&jsonURL=/media/meta/2011/12/29/12292011-22v.jsn” ><p>Your Browser DoesNot Support IFrames.</p></iframe>
Restore Our Future is putting $450,000 into the ad by next Tuesday. The super PAC has pledged to spend $3.1 million in Iowa and has been on television in the Hawkeye State for the better part of the last month.
Gingrich has repeatedly denounced the negative super PAC ads against him, but they’re working.
According to the new Time/CNN poll, Gingrich has fallen 19 points in Iowa over the past month, from first place to fourth place. In that poll, only 11 percent of respondents said that he “best represents the personal characteristics and qualities that you think a President should have.”
