CHARLOTTE — Earlier today we posted the one chart — a look a private sector job creation — that President Obama and his allies believe provides their best answer to the “are you better off than you were four years ago” question.
Below is the Republican retort — a chart that overlays the national unemployment rate with median household income from 2000 to the present.
The unemployment rate has soared since the spring of 2008 and stayed in that treacherous political territory for the majority of the Obama presidency. At the same time, median household income has been steadily dropping since January 2009.
Combine sky-high unemployment rates with the fact that families are making less money and the answer to whether we are better off than four years ago is a resounding “no”.
