Stephen Colbert on the ‘fiscal cliff’ (video)

November 28, 2012

While the White House and congressional leaders work to try to avert the fiscal cliff at the end of the year, Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert provided some background on the situation during his Tuesday night program.

"Obama's answer to this budget crisis is to raise taxes on the wealthy just because he ran on that promise and won the election. It's like he's totally disregarding my dismissive finger quotes," Colbert said.

As for the Republicans who have said they are willing to violate Grover Norquist's anti-tax pledge? Well, Colbert had a message for them.

"Yes, an anti-tax pledge is eternal and unbreakable. This is like a pact with the devil, or a gym membership," he said.
