Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-Nev.) guaranteed Sunday that the Senate would pass sweeping immigration reform measures, and warned House Republicans against blocking the renewed attempt to overhaul the nation’s current immigration laws.
“Well, it’s certainly gonna pass the Senate. And — it would be a bad day for our country and a bad day for the Republican Party if they continue standing in the way of this,” Reid said in an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.”
While specific legislation has yet to be introduced, a bipartisan group of senators last week unveiled a sweeping set of principles designed to guide the reform effort. The plan includes a proposed pathway to citizenship for the nation’s more than 11 million illegal immigrants.
