EARLIER ON THE FIX:
WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED:
Employer health care mandate delayed: The Obama administration is delaying its employer health care mandate until 2015, the Treasury Department announced. The administration will not penalize businesses that do not provide health insurance in 2014.
Bloomberg to raise cash for Manchin: New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) will host a fundraiser for Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) later this month, according to reports from Buzzfeed and CNN. The pairing makes sense, given that Bloomberg is a leading advocate of stricter gun laws and Manchin led the charge for a bill to expand background checks on gun sales that failed in the Senate earlier this year. Buzzfeed first reported the fundraiser.
Perry decision coming next week: We should know by Monday whether Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) is going to run for another term. He told supporters in an e-mail that he will announce “exciting future plans” at that time. A survey from automated Democratic pollster Public Policy Polling shows Perry leading state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) 53 percent to 39 percent in a hypothetical match-up.
Braley raises $1.25 million: On the Senate fundraising front, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) raised $1.25 million during the second quarter, finishing with more than $2 million on hand. In Minnesota, Republican Mike McFadden raised more than $700,000 during the first month of his campaign. He is not self-funding.
‘It’s a really nice prison’: First lady Michelle Obama joked at a summit of the wives of African leaders in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday about the constrictions of being first lady and being in the White House. “There are prison-like elements, but it’s a really nice prison,” she said. ”You can’t complain. There are confining elements.”
