We never got to meet or know Jack Germond but he was a pioneer in just the sort of political and campaign reporting we practice and love.
In reading around the web about Jack today, we came across a handful of amazing quotes/tweets that tell the story of his life. We thought we would share a few of our favorites.
* “Jack died from the consequences of a life well-lived.” — Alice Germond.
* ”He was not simply drawn to journalism as a profession; like Hildy Johnson in [The] Front Page, he was addicted to it as a way of life.” – Tim Crouse, “The Boys on the Bus”.
* “Before politics was fed into computers and moveable maps came out, Jack Germond had it all in his head.” – Former Associated Press reporter Walter Mears.
Jack Germond, one of the nation’s great political reporters, died this morning. He loved scoops, pols, horses, food & drink–and Alice. RIP.

RIP Jack Germond. Fat Man in a Middle Seat = greatest memoir title ever. Him holding forth on his stool at the Wayfarer bar = unforgettable.
