A decade ago, California voters recalled Gov. Gray Davis (D) and replaced him with actor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R). At the time, the recall election was a rare and exotic thing — like someone executing a Triple Lindy.
Ten years on, recalls are becoming more and more common. We’ve already seen two Colorado Democratic state legislators recalled this year and gun rights advocates are pushing for a third recall in the state. In fact, of the 38 state legislative recall elections in U.S. history, 20 — more than half! — have been in the last decade.
