The largest state -- by land mass -- in the country is Alaska. The Last Frontier is in the bottom five states in terms of population, however. So, what would happen if we matched the physical size of every state with its population? As in the state with the most space would be the one with the largest population?
A Reddit user named "alexthedinosaur" figured it out -- using the latest Census data for population and the land area for each of the 50 states. His map is absolutely fascinating. (Click on the map for a bigger version.)
Only three states would remain in their current positions on the map: Missouri, Mississippi and Texas. A few of our favorite switcheroos:
* Alaska becomes California
* New York becomes Iowa
* Virginia becomes Nebraska
* Nevada becomes Ohio
* Hawaii becomes Alaska
