9 photos of politicians being excited about soccer

The 2014 World Cup is finally here, and most of the world is scheduled to be obsessive about score checking and checking out from work for the next month. That includes politicians. Here's a look at politicians around the globe who have gotten really, really excited about watching or playing soccer.

First, there are the politicians here at home.

Obama invited players from the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team to the White House in 2012 after they won the Major League Soccer championships. He looked pretty excited about it.

President Jimmy Carter also invited soccer players to the White House -- including Pele, who looked way more psyched to be in the White House than Carter did about meeting him.

President George H.W. Bush's athletic pursuits aren't limited to skydiving.

Secretary of State John Kerry got ready for the World Cup by practicing his soccer moves between plane trips. Even boring phone calls can be made better with sport.

Speaking of sport, former presidential candidate Mitt Romney also enjoys watching soccer. At least if one of his 20 grandchildren are playing.

Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and Tipper Gore sometimes hang out with soccer stars. Given how excited Tipper and Chelsea look, you can hardly tell that they are watching the State of the Union instead of a soccer match.

Israeli President Shimon Peres doesn't appear as fond of playing soccer. However, he is happy to watch Sharon Stone play.

And the president of Brazil was so excited about the World Cup coming to her country that she even agreed to take a selfie to celebrate.
