Will Congress pass a measure expanding background checks for gun purchases?
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said "every major policy issue" has been resolved in a bipartisan Senate working group.
The head of the National Rifle Association says the New York City mayor is trying to "buy America."
"It will balance at the same time the Republicans' budget balanced last year -- which is out in the future around 2040," said the ranking Democrat on the Budget Committee, as GOP criticism that Democrats are not serious about balancing the budget has been mounting.
"No more August conventions," the RNC chairman said in an interview. He also called for fewer primary debates and a shorter primary season.
"I think Republicans, if they saw true entitlement reform, would be glad to look at tax reform that generates additional revenues," Corker said in an interview.
The House speaker says he appreciates Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman's decision, but his own views have not changed -- nor does he expect them to in the future.
The House speaker said in an interview that while the crisis is not here now, it's coming, because of unsustainable entitlement spending. He also continued to hold a hard line against new tax revenue.
Republicans expressed hope Sunday that President Obama's outreach to the GOP could lead to substantive negotiations, but said that only time will tell if that will be the case.
