Santorum blunders again

I was thinking of taking today off, but Rick Santorum wouldn’t let me.

Rick Santorum went and said another stupid thing. “The Earth is not the objective,” he told “Face The Nation.” “Man is the objective. And, I think a lot of radical environmentalists have it upside down.”

I think he says these things not because he is, in fact, stupid, but because he is angry, and anger fuels his supporters.

Stay with me: I was in a garden cemetery this weekend, an old one. There was a headstone where a tree trunk had encroached, its roots partially obscuring the inscription. To me, it said a lot. The promise of man and the Earth, not at war, but in harmony.

But this balance has been upset, and balance has been replaced by a war. And the Earth — our only home for us, our kids and generations of what Santorum might call the unborn — is losing. Does Rick Santorum have no clue at all? Does the doubling of the world’s population and the quadrupling of the atmosphere’s CO2 mean nothing?

Rick Santorum: The Earth’s nightmare, but a blogger’s dream.
