The problems that African Americans sometimes face when trying to hail a cab have been well documented in cities. But now Fox 5’s Tisha Thompson shows that the problem exists in Alexandria, too, for riders at the King Street Metro station.
The problem isn’t necessarily the riders: It’s their destination. They tell the cabbies they want to go to Southeast Washington, or Anacostia. Though they are already in the cab, the drivers refuse and ask the passengers to get out, usually with an apology.
Alexandria officials told Thompson that they’ve gotten four complaints about such situations, but she notes that there are probably more people who haven’t filed complaints. Thompson’s original tipster tells her that a cabdriver once called the police on HIM.
