Alexandria’s waterfront before the storm

The Alexandria waterfront Friday morning, with Hurricane Irene approaching. (Angela B. Pan)
From the State of NoVa’s favorite photographer, Angela B. Pan, comes this amazing shot of the Alexandria waterfront near the Torpedo Factory at sunrise Friday morning. It is not a painting, though it sure looks like one. Let’s hope the waterfront looks like this after Ms. H. Irene of Atlantic, Ocean, pays her visit.

Note: Pan uses a process called HDR, short for high dynamic range, which involves merging several images into one to improve contrast and, I’d say, overall coolness. Here’s a good tutorial on it. And here’s a link to Pan’s own site, from which longtime readers of this blog will note I have, er, borrowed before. (With permission.)
