School’s finally out. Oh, you already knew that. Now, how to keep the short-legged ones busy for the summer? Here are several suggestions:
The first comes from the fine folks at Wolf Trap, who remind us of their neat Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods, back behind the Filene Center. It’s a little bit of a hike with small people, but it’s worth it. Tomorrow (Saturday), Vienna’s Robbie Schaefer, from the local faves Eddie from Ohio, winds up a successful run of music shows for kids. Wolf Trap’s Melissa Chotiner informs that Schaefer is trying out some new material on the younger set this week, “including an edgy one about how he told his 6-year-old crush he loved her (by hitting her).”
Here’s a quick video look at the Theatre in the Woods, which has shows every Tuesday through Saturday morning, free for 3 and under:
In Vienna, local blogger and mom Melanie Kadlic Meren has put together a good list of places both in and out of the hot sun to take little ones in our area. She also has some ideas about date nights for tired new parents. In our house, we call that “Netflix.”
The Arlington Kids blog is always a reliable source of fun things to do for kids in the Arlington and Alexandria areas, and they’ve got a lot of solid suggestions right now.
And, for when it’s raining, The Post’s Kids Post Web site has undergone an overhaul and now has lots of cool stuff for kids to do on the computer, as well as its own list of suggestions for places to go and see.
Finally, since you are not a kid, you will be pleased to learn that Wolf Trap sometimes shoots and posts videos of its performances. And here is an apparently vibrant and healthy Aretha Franklin, on stage last month, belting out Jackie Wilson’s “Higher and Higher.” Turn it up.
