I-66 in Fairfax to be nightmare for next 18 months. AAGGH!

I-66 at Route 123. Only now you’ll have just one lane, at night. (Katherine Frey/TWP)
As if the Beltway reconstruction wasn’t enough, our Traffic Hell is about to get worse. VDOT is going to begin resurfacing I-66 at night between Fair Oaks (Route 50) and the Beltway (Utter Chaosland). Seriously? The other night, I was coming home on 66 from DC, and without warning I was suddenly on the Dulles Access Road. Not the Toll Road. The access road of No Exit and No Escape.

VDOT says it will be doing this resurfacing between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., closing two of the three lanes, for two-mile stretches. starting TONIGHT. Soon, it will also start closing exits at night to accomplish this. VDOT says it’s doing this because the pavement is badly deteriorated. My sanity is badly deteriorated.

Here’s VDOT’s press release.
