A horrific homicide that has been the sensation of the New York tabloids this week allegedly involves a former Manassas man who reportedly called his father in Northern Virginia after the stabbing, and the father convinced him to surrender.
Both the New York Post and Daily News are reporting that Sarah Coit, 23, was nearly decapitated inside her Lower East Side apartment in Manhattan early Sunday. Her live-in boyfriend, Raul Barrera, 33, was arrested later Sunday as he was headed to Penn Station. The Post called Barrera “the sicko accused of decapitating his girlfriend,” and quoted a prosecutor as saying Barrera “violently and horribly stabbed her to death” and “walked out of the apartment while she was still alive.”
Assistant DA William Beesch said Barrera called his father in Virginia, then “went to the 9th Precinct and walked in and said he stabbed his girlfriend,” the Daily News reported. InsideNova.com is reporting that Barrera’s father lives in Manassas and did not answer the door Tuesday. Raul Barrera is charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond. He worked in public relations, the Post and Daily News said.
