Aaron Vaughn, who entered the Navy after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was among the members of Navy SEAL Team 6 who were killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan on Saturday. Thirty American troops died in the attack, 22 of them Navy SEALs.
Vaughn, based in Virginia Beach, was a father of two small children, ages 2 and 2 months. His wife, Kimberly, and parents Billy and Karen spoke to the Today show’s Matt Lauer Monday morning from McLean. (This post originally stated Vaughn was from McLean.)
