Yeah, we’re all about Team USA, but really the Olympics are mostly about individual achievement. And here are the individual Olympians everyone in the State of NoVa will be rooting for in the next two weeks:

Claire Hallissey, Arlington — Marathon (Running for England)
Terrence Jennings, Alexandria --Taekwondo (68 kg)
Moise Joseph, Reston — Track (800 m) (Running for Haiti)
Samyr Laine, Alexandria — Field (Triple jump) (Jumping for Haiti)
Giuseppe Lanzone, Annandale — Rowing (eight)
Claire Laubach, Bristow — Field hockey
Matt McLean, Sterling — Swimming (800 m free relay)
Andy Najar, Alexandria — Soccer (Playing for Honduras)
Karen O’Connor, The Plains — Equestrian (Oldest U.S. Olympian)
Julie Zetlin, Arlington — Rhythmic gymnastics
Kate Ziegler, Great Falls — Swimming (800 m free)
Sean O’Neill, Vienna — Table tennis (NBC commentator)
In addition to the links above, Dan Friedell in Northern Virginia Magazine has written fine profiles of many of these folks, which you can read here. If we’ve left any out, please let me know.
And I will be live online on Sunday night and again on Wednesday night, joining The Post’s live blog of the Olympics in prime time. It’s easy to join in the conversation, which will stream continuously alongside the blog, so come on along by clicking here.
