Tysons goes legit, is recognized by Post Office

From the time when it was just a dusty four-way intersection with a gas station, Tysons Corner has always been its own place. It’s not McLean. It’s not Falls Church. It’s not Vienna. But the U.S. Postal Service didn’t get that, so when it came time for the mail, all the businesses and residents there had to call it something it wasn’t.

Until now.

On Friday, the post office announced that Tysons was now a recognized address in the mail, either as Tysons Corner, Va., or Tysons, Va. It can be used in the 22102 and 22182 Zip codes of McLean and Vienna, which make up the majority of the Tysons area, according to this fine story by The Post’s Tysons Corner bureau chief, Kafia Hosh.

Now this doesn’t mean Tysons gets its own Zip code. Silly you. But maybe someday, like 2050, when Tysons is projected to have 200,000 workers and 100,000 residents, dreams will come true.
