Warner campaigns for Democrats in Northern Virginia

Sen. Mark Warner is spending a marathon day in Northern Virginia Friday, trying to help fellow Democrats raise much-needed cash in the final weeks before next month’s elections.

He will appear at an event for Sen. George Barker (Fairfax) in Alexandra. Four other fundraisers — for Sen. Dave Marsden (Fairfax), Senate candidates Shawn Mitchell (Loudoun) and Bert Dodson (Louisa) and Del. Scott Surovell (Mount Vernon) -- will be in Fairfax County in the hopes of securing some money from the plethora of businesses in Northern Virginia and the District.

In between, Warner will speak at the ribbon-cutting for an Arlington-based energy technology company, Opower, where he will be joined by Rep. Jim Moran and Virginia Technology Secretary Jim Duffey.

Friday afternoon, he will conduct an employee town hall hosted by MicroTech, a leading IT company.

The former governor is easily the most popular Democrat in the state with his job approval ratings in the 60s when Congress as a whole is 40 percentage points lower.

This summer, he headlined a fundraiser for the Senate Democrats, who are trying to hold onto their fragile 22 to 18 majority against a party with more money and more candidates, and had another round of fundraisers and events for legislative candidates.

Warner’s political action committee, Forward Together, donated $25,000 each to Senate and House Democratic caucuses, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, a nonpartisan tracker of money in politics.
