This robot paints better than you do

August 19, 2013

Computers have long been able to reproduce famous paintings with a color printer. But via Geek.com, here's a welding robot that can do something much more impressive: pick up a paintbrush and apply paint to canvas, producing results that look surprisingly like human-made art. Here's a video of the robot, known as e-David, at work.

e-David paints much as a human being would. It examines the original painting, washes its brush, dips it in an appropriate color of paint and brushes the paint onto the canvas. Repeat a few thousand times, and the result are impressively realistic reproductions.
