The Fox thriller "24" became a source of controversy early on as it tackled the ethical issues surrounding torture and counterterrorism.
Now, Kiefer Sutherland is returning to the small screen as Jack Bauer, Quartz reports. In a 12-episode run known as "24: Live Another Day," Bauer will be dashing across London — the real thing, not a dressed-up Los Angeles. Coming with him is Mary Lynn Rajskub, who in previous seasons played Bauer's geeky technical aide, Chloe O'Brian. But this time, according to Manny Coto, the show's executive producer, O'Brian has forsaken her former employer.
"[She's] turned against the government and has turned into a radical, Snowden-like character," Coto told Quartz.
Given the degree to which Snowden and cybersecurity have dominated headlines over the past year, it's only natural that the show's producers would gravitate toward the idea of O'Brian as a disaffected yet sophisticated insider. It also reflects a touch of predictable me-tooism. But it'll be interesting regardless to find out what happens to Chloe — and by extension, to learn what Coto's stance on Snowden actually is.
