Dying for a new iPhone? Your wait may be nearly over. Apple on Thursday confirmed that it is holding a press event on Sept. 9 by sending invitations to members of the media.

The event is widely expected to be the launch event for the next generation of Apple's iPhone. Analysts expect Apple to release two new iPhones, with larger screens. The current iPhone has a 4-inch screen; analysts think Apple may release 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models of the phone. A recent report from Re/Code's John Paczkowski also indicates that Apple may be releasing its new iWatch along with the new iPhone models.

Apple is being characteristically silent about its plans, even saying in the invitation, "Wish we could say more."
