National Park Service to host Town Hall June 23 at THEARC

To help local residents navigate its sites, the park service holding a town hall meeting on June 23 at THEARC in Ward 8. Superintendents from five national parks in the District will hold a panel discussion to share their knowledge, as well as share information about their site regions.

“Many neighborhoods... don’t even know that their backyard is essentially a National Park site,” says Alex Romero, superintendent of National Capital Parks-East. “We just want to get the message out there, work with our communities to support them with programming as well as let them know of the opportunities that we have available.” The event will begin with an open house where attendees can find out about volunteer and employment opportunities and pick up literature on future events for the summer, including Independence Day preparations and outdoor concerts at Carter Barron Amphitheatre.

“This is bridging that gap between communities and the National Park Service in supporting one another, since we’re neighbors,” he added.

Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has also been asked to attend.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. THEARC is located at 1901 Mississippi Ave S.E.
