Queen Latifah thanks fans at Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival

Queen Latifah may not have officially come out with her sexuality, but she aligned herself closely with the lesbian and gay community calling them “my people” at the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival this weekend.

The influential rapper and actress headlined the festival and told the crowd of 10,000 fans in Southern California that she had been “wanting to do this for a long time.” She offered positive messages throughout the evening thanking the crowd for their love and support. She performed songs like “Ladies First” and “U.N.I.T.Y”

Latifah, whose real name is Dana Owens, was rumored to have dated choreographer Jeanette Jenkins. But the couple split in 2011.

Latifah is slated to host her own talk show for this fall and will star in the remake of ‘Steel Magnolias.’
