The Root’s Top 100

Our friends over at The Root compiled a top 100 list of young black achievers and influencers for 2011. The honorees span all fields from entertainment, journalism, law and politics.

Notable names like rapper Jay-Z and entrepeneur and supermodel Tyra Banks rounded out the top spots.

But other folks made their mark like Baratunde Thurston, the Brooklyn based comedian and author set to release his first book in early 2012.

Not to be outdone by New York, D.C. based Melanie N. Roussell, press secretary for the Democratic National Committee and former Washington Post writer Robin Givhan and current fashion critic for the Daily Beast round out the list of locals.

Take a look at all 100 honorees at The Root.
