RAND names Charles Ries as vice president, international

The RAND Corporation has names Charles Ries as vice president, international.

“RAND is a global institution, with research activities underway on every continent,” RAND president and CEO Michael D. Rich said in a statement. “Charles Ries’ many years of experience working with governments overseas will be invaluable as we continue to build and strengthen our ties with clients around the world.”

Ries joined RAND in February 2009 as a senior fellow, focusing on national security and intelligence, European politics and energy policy. In February 2011, he was made director of the RAND Center for Middle East Public Policy and will continue to do so in his new post.

Before joining RAND, Ries had a 31-year State Department career, including ambassador to Greece from 2004 to 2007.

In his new post, Ries will develop strategies and coordinate efforts to expand RAND’s international reach. He will oversee RAND Europe, the RAND Qatar Policy Institute and the organization’s other international programs.
