Burning question

Just curious as to what the rugged individualist libertarian types out west have to say about this. The federal fleet of air tanker firefighting planes is aging and needs replacing, at $80,000,000 a pop.

I’m sure they are clamoring for this program to be zeroed out so as that they can be free of government interference. I’m sure it bothers them no end that city dwellers have to pay taxes to fight wildfires out in the countryside.

What are homeowners to do by themselves in the face of a conflagration? Private garden hoses. If hoses prove insufficient? Private insurance! Letting wildfires burn through all the communities in their path would be showing the nation that we are rugged individualists willing to deal with our own problems and not getting government all involved in trying to mitigate risk and whatnot.

And while we’re at it, the government is just itching to try and limit climate change. Climate change is highly likely to increase the frequency and intensity of fires if it hasn’t already. Give us those more frequent and larger fires and fewer planes to put them out. Is this the argument they are making? Seriously, I am curious about this.
