It was fun while it lasted. It seemed for a minute (100 years) like the Most Important Century ever, but now it’s like it never happened. It seemed kind of futuristic at the time, but it wasstuff like washing machines and garage door openers they were talking about. Communism? It seemed like a topic then. The road to suburbia was going somewhere before it ended in a cul-de-sac.
And the other thing it had that’s impossible to remember now was that America is a middle-class country, where incomes got MORE similar to each other. Remember that? No. Why bother? The Peloponnesian Wars have greater relevance now, and seem more recent too.
Here’s a little noted fact that will put things in perspective for you! “Wages and salary income in 2012 amounted to 44 percent of G.D.P., the lowest at any time since 1929, which is as far back as the data goes. But the revisions cut that to 42.6 percent, which matched the revised 2010 figure as the lowest ever.”
So, for all intents and purposes, everybody in the 20th Century made more than you do now, in relative terms, which means your relatives did too. Forget, forget all that. They tell us now that such a thing is not economically possible. It must have never happened. Forget, not possible….. Forget…. They want us to forget. No wonder they seem ready to legalize marijuana now.
